If you watched the recent 80th Academy Awards, you would've noticed that black and red are definitely the most outstanding colors among the guests. A sea of both colors is easily visible starting from the red carpet. Excluding the male stars, black was one of the prominent gown colors that night:

i loved daniel day lewis' wife, rebecca miller, in christian lacroix haute couture. especially the red bows & black & white striped heels. i could have done without the big flowery jewels on the front.
Yeah I think the dress would look prettier without those too.
